Fuku opens first South Florida location in Coral Gables

David Chang's Fuku fried chicken brand has launched its first standalone South Florida restaurant at 135 Miracle Mile in Coral Gables on March 11. The opening marks a significant expansion for the fast-casual chain, which originated as a secret menu item in New York City. A second location is planned for West Palm Beach later this year.

Fuku, the fried chicken concept from chef David Chang, began as an off-menu item at Momofuku Noodle Bar in New York City around 2015. It quickly gained a cult following, leading to its first dedicated location in the East Village that same year. The brand has since expanded to 15 locations across the country, including pop-ups in stadiums and arenas. For several years, Fuku has been available at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, but the Coral Gables site represents its first permanent outpost in South Florida.

The new 2,000-square-foot restaurant features a bright, contemporary design with signature peach tones, drawing from the Momofuku 'lucky peach' heritage. It aims to serve as an energetic space for quick lunches or casual gatherings. On opening day, March 11, the first 135 guests received limited-edition totes containing merchandise, Momofuku Chili Crunch, Milk Bar cookies, and gift cards, with some including surprise 'golden bags.' Additional activities included a vintage photo booth, custom T-shirt printing, and local beverage collaborations.

The menu centers on in-house breaded fried chicken sandwiches served on butter-toasted potato rolls, available in spicy or mild varieties. Options include the OG Sando with Fuku mayo and pickles, the Sweet & Spicy Sando glazed in signature sauce and topped with pickled daikon, and the Miso Ranch and Slaw variation with rice vinegar slaw and scallion ranch. Sides feature waffle fries, loaded Party Fries, tenders, garlic rice, and salads. Desserts incorporate local elements, such as cookies from Milk Bar and treats from Coconut Grove's Fookem’s Fabulous. Beverages include oolong sweet tea, yuzu lemonade, slushies, canned beer, and wine.

David Chang stated, “This opening is about bringing Fuku back in a way that feels authentic and fun. Great food, no overthinking it, and a place people actually want to hang out.” The restaurant operates at 135 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables, and can be visited via eatfuku.com.
