Ethiopia becomes global green economy model through Green Legacy Program

Ethiopia's Green Legacy Program has positioned the country as an international model for the green economy. The initiative has boosted forest cover through completed activities and opened economic benefits.

Launched at the initiative of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the program supports balanced rainfall, harmony with nature and food self-sufficiency. Over past years it has prevented deforestation and increased forest cover.

Planted seedlings absorb carbon from the atmosphere and create a source of billions of dollars in revenue. They have also generated jobs for millions and improved farmers' livelihoods.

Ethiopia has shared millions of seedlings free of charge with neighbors including Djibouti, Kenya, Somalia and South Sudan. This step strengthens the country's foreign policy and regional ties.
