أعلن وزير الطاقة والبترول أوبيو واندائي يوم الجمعة 5 يونيو 2026 أن كينيا ستبدأ في إنتاج النفط الخام من مقاطعة توركانا قبل نهاية العام.

قال الوزير واندائي إن النفط الخام المنتج سيُباع في الخارج لتكريره، مشيراً إلى أن عائدات المبيعات ستعود بالنفع على كل كيني. وأضاف في مقابلة مع إذاعة "راديو جامبو": "قبل نهاية هذا العام سنبدأ في إنتاج النفط من توركانا". وأوضح أن تنفيذ المشروع قد وصل إلى مرحلة الإنتاج، حيث ستتولى شركة "جلف إنرجي المحدودة" استخراج النفط من الآبار في منطقة لوكيتشار بدائرة توركانا الجنوبية، بعد أن تولت الشركة إدارة المشروع عقب استحواذها على أصول شركة "تولو أويل" التي تتخذ من المملكة المتحدة مقراً لها.
