Die beiden Brüder sitzen derzeit in Untersuchungshaft. Die Staatsanwaltschaft wirft ihnen vor, vor Uwe Reppegathers Privatinsolvenz im Jahr 2023 Vermögen in hoher zweistelliger Millionenhöhe verschoben zu haben. Die Vorwürfe lauten auf Betrug, Bankrott und Untreue.

Ein Anwalt bestätigte dem Handelsblatt, dass Abel die externe Prüfung selbst angeregt habe, um die Rechtmäßigkeit der Vorgänge klarzustellen.
