Western Cape SPCA bereitet sich auf Wetterwarnstufe 8 vor

Der Western Cape SPCA ist in erhöhter Alarmbereitschaft, da von Sonntag bis Dienstag eine Wetterwarnung der Stufe 8 gilt, was zu Vorbereitungen führt, um gefährdete Tiere vor Überschwemmungen zu schützen.

Die Gesellschaft zur Verhütung von Grausamkeit gegen Tiere (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) im Western Cape hat ihre Ersthelfer mobilisiert. Die Fahrzeuge werden mit Transportboxen, Decken, Futter und Notfallausrüstung beladen.

Sprecherin Belinda Abraham teilte mit, dass die Organisation eng mit den Katastrophenschutzteams zusammenarbeite. Bei einer Verschlimmerung der Überschwemmungen werde man vom gemeinsamen Einsatzzentrum (Joint Operations Centre) aus reagieren.

„Wir bitten alle Bewohner von Kapstadt, die Wetterwarnungen ernst zu nehmen“, so Abraham. Sie appellierte an die Anwohner, Tiere ins Haus zu holen, sicherzustellen, dass Hundehütten wasserdicht und erhöht stehen, und Pferde oder Nutztiere auf höher gelegenes Gelände zu bringen, falls eine Überflutung unmittelbar bevorsteht. Der südafrikanische Wetterdienst hat die Warnung vor ergiebigem Dauerregen für den gesamten Western Cape für den Zeitraum vom 10. bis 12. Mai 2026 herausgegeben.
