La SPCA del Cabo Occidental se encuentra en alerta máxima debido a que una alerta meteorológica naranja de nivel 8 entrará en vigor desde el domingo hasta el martes, lo que ha impulsado preparativos para ayudar a los animales en riesgo de inundación.

La Sociedad para la Prevención de la Crueldad contra los Animales en el Cabo Occidental ha movilizado a sus equipos de primera respuesta. Los vehículos están siendo cargados con transportines para animales, mantas, comida y suministros de emergencia.

La portavoz Belinda Abraham señaló que la organización está trabajando en estrecha colaboración con los equipos de gestión de desastres. Responderán desde el Centro de Operaciones Conjuntas si las inundaciones empeoran.

“Necesitamos que todos los habitantes de Ciudad del Cabo se tomen en serio las alertas meteorológicas”, declaró Abraham. Instó a los residentes a resguardar a los animales en el interior, asegurar que las casetas sean impermeables y estén elevadas, y trasladar a los caballos o animales de granja a terrenos más altos si la inundación se vuelve inminente. El Servicio Meteorológico de Sudáfrica emitió la alerta por lluvias disruptivas en todo el Cabo Occidental, válida del 10 al 12 de mayo de 2026.
