Millicom reduce dotación en Chile un 35% tras control de Telefónica

Millicom presentó sus resultados del primer trimestre de 2026 e informó que recortó un 35% del personal en Chile tras asumir el control de las operaciones de Telefónica en febrero. La medida generó costos de US$21 millones en indemnizaciones y retiros voluntarios.

La compañía ingresó al mercado chileno a mitad del trimestre y aplicó su estrategia para revertir las pérdidas acumuladas. Según datos de Telefónica al cierre de 2025, el personal era de 3.236 personas, por lo que se despidió a cerca de 1.130 trabajadores.

El CEO Marcelo Benítez señaló que también se redujo la deuda en US$85 millones, lo que bajó el ratio de endeudamiento en 0,4 veces el EBITDA. Además, se simplificó la oferta comercial de Movistar y se lanzó un plan para mejorar la red móvil.

La empresa generó US$200 millones en ingresos entre febrero y marzo y logró flujo de caja positivo antes de la reestructuración. El CFO Bart Vanhaeren destacó que la operación pasó de perder US$500 mil diarios a mostrar optimismo por alcanzar flujo neutro a fin de año.

Los resultados de los joint ventures registraron pérdidas de US$13 millones, impulsadas principalmente por la participación en Chile.
