Slay the Spire 2 devs address balance patch feedback, tease more updates

Following review bombing after its first major balance patch on March 20, Mega Crit has responded to player feedback on Slay the Spire 2. The studio explained its Early Access patching process for new players and announced this beta update as the start of many changes over the next one to two years.

Mega Crit posted a social media thread on March 22 addressing reactions to the beta balance patch (v0.100.0), which targeted infinite combos and adjusted classes like The Regent and Necrobinder. The patch, released two days earlier, led to a drop in Steam ratings from Overwhelmingly Positive (97%) to Very Positive (83%) due to nerf complaints. For players new to Slay the Spire 2's Early Access or unfamiliar with the original game's development, Mega Crit outlined its methodology: updates draw from player feedback, in-game metrics, beta tester reports, and design goals. Experimental changes first hit the opt-in beta branch on Steam for refinement before main branch rollout. 'Hey everyone, we appreciate all the feedback on the recent beta patch! ... The beta branch will see the most experimental changes and will be tweaked each time until we feel it’s stable enough for the main branch. Participating in that process is optional but very helpful.' The team stressed this is the 'first of many' balance passes over 1-2 years to reach Slay the Spire 1-level polish, with non-linear progress and flexible changes. The game continues strong post-launch, with 3 million sales in a week and record Steam concurrent players exceeding titles like Fallout 4 and Helldivers 2.
