Snapchat rolls out sponsored AI agents in chat

Snapchat launched AI Sponsored Snaps on Tuesday, enabling brands to interact with users via AI agents in the app's Chat tab. The feature, marked with a light gray 'Ad' notation, allows users to ask questions about the sponsoring brand. Experian became the first partner, with its bot addressing topics like credit scores and loan options.

Snapchat introduced AI Sponsored Snaps as a new advertising format integrated into its Chat feature. Brands can now appear as AI agents, facilitating direct conversations with users. Snap described it as a way to make advertising feel native to everyday chat interactions. The rollout occurred on Tuesday, with the agents displaying a clear 'Ad' label next to the brand name in the Chat tab. Users open the chat to pose questions tailored to the brand's offerings. Snap's first partner, Experian, demonstrated the capability by answering queries on saving money, improving credit scores, and exploring credit cards and loans. Ajit Mohan, Snap's Chief Business Officer, stated in a press release, 'Conversation is becoming the most valuable real estate in advertising. AI is accelerating that shift, turning chat into the place where people discover products, ask questions, and make decisions in real time. The real opportunity isn't just putting ads into those environments, it's designing formats that feel native to how people already talk.' This builds on Snapchat's My AI feature, which has received messages from more than half a billion people since its launch three years ago. That chatbot faced early criticism after instances where it provided inappropriate advice to users posing as teenagers.
