Stratbase, ‘tamang landas’ ang Balikatan sa West Philippine Sea

Ipinaabot ng Stratbase Institute na ‘tamang landas pasulong’ ang pagpapalawak ng militar na pakikipagtulungan sa mga kaalyado para sa Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea. Ipinahayag ni Dindo Manhit, pangulo ng institute, ang ‘walang-hanggang suporta’ sa taong itong Balikatan exercises na makakasama ang mahigit 17,000 sundalo mula sa Pilipinas at mga katuwang na bansa.

Sa Manila, ipinahayag ni Dindo Manhit ng Stratbase Institute ang suporta sa Balikatan exercises. Ayon sa kanya, nagpapadala ito ng “malinaw at walang-habag na mensahe… na handa ang Pilipinas at mga katuwang nito na ipagtanggol ang rules-based international order laban sa panunulsol, pananakot at hindi batas na mga claim.”

Dagdag pa niya, “Ipinapakita nito na hindi tayo nag-iisa, at nakaugat ang ating pambansang seguridad sa matatag na alyansa sa mga bansang sumusuporta sa international law at nagbabahagi ng commitment sa free and open Indo-Pacific.”

Binanggit din ni Manhit ang patuloy na pagwawalang-bahala ng China sa 2016 arbitral ruling na nag-invalidate ng malawak na claims nito sa South China Sea, na kilala rin bilang West Philippine Sea. “Huling desisyon iyon at hindi mapapag-ugnay-ugnay. Ang pagpapahina nito—kung sa pamamagitan ng katahimikan o kawalan ng aksyon, lalo na habang lumalapit sa ika-10 anibersaryo ng 2016 award—ay magpapahina sa legal at moral na kalinawan nito,” aniya.

Aniya pa, mababa ang tiwala ng publiko sa engagements sa China dahil sa paulit-ulit na karanasan na nagpapatunay ng pag-iingat.
