韓国宇宙航空庁は、2035年までに地球低軌道衛星通信網を構築し、同国初の月面着陸計画を2030年に前倒しする計画を発表した。
韓国宇宙航空庁は7月3日、晋州で開催された先端産業発展に関する公開説明会でこの戦略を明らかにした。この計画は同日、李在明大統領が議長を務める国家宇宙委員会で承認された。
このネットワークには128基から512基の衛星が必要となり、費用は5年ごとに4兆ウォンから13兆2000億ウォンにのぼると推定されている。民間企業が過半数を出資する特別目的会社が設立され、衛星データの商用化を行い、2034年までに17億ドル以上の売上高を見込んでいる。
月探査計画も加速され、2029年には月通信軌道船、2030年にはヌリ号ロケットに小型着陸船を搭載し、2031年には地球・月探査機を打ち上げる予定である。呉泰錫（オ・テソク）長官は、地球低軌道ネットワークは国家安全保障および通信主権にとって極めて重要なインフラであると述べた。
