Terminal 1E ya JKIA itafungwa, magari ya kibinafsi yatazuiliwa katika mpango wa uboreshaji

Terminal 1E ya Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) itafungwa ili kutoa nafasi kwa upanuzi wa Terminal 1D. Magari ya kibinafsi hayataruhusiwa kuingia eneo kuu la kituo, na wataleta au kupeleka abiria karibu na maegesho ya muda mrefu. Mpango huu ni hatua ya kwanza ili kupunguza shinikizo na kuongeza uwezo wa abiria hadi milioni 12 kwa mwaka.

Kulingana na pendekezo la kampuni ya kibinafsi iliyoajiriwa kuandaa mpango mkuu wa urekebishaji wa JKIA, marekebisho haya yatatoa nafasi kwa upanuzi wa terminal ili kuongeza uwezo mara moja. Terminal 1E itafungwa, na abiria wa kimataifa watahamishiwa Terminal 1A, ambayo sasa hutumika na shirika la taifa. Upanuzi wa Terminal 1D utatumika pekee kwa safari za ndani za kuingia na kutoka.

Mpango huo pia unapendekeza kuunganisha Terminal 1B na 1C kuwa kituo kimoja kikubwa cha kuondoka kimataifa. Aidha, itaundwa pointi za ziada za kuingia na uchunguzi wa usalama ili kupunguza madogo ya abiria. Hii ni hatua ya kwanza ili kupunguza shinikizo kwenye vifaa vilivyopo, ikiruhusu wakati wa kujenga terminal mpya na barabara ya ndege ambayo itaongeza uwezo wa JKIA hadi abiria milioni 22.3 ifikapo 2029.

JKIA sasa inashughulikia abiria milioni 7.5 kwa mwaka, na uwezo wa mara moja kufikia milioni 12. Wakati wa kuwasilisha mpango huo katika mkutano wa juu wa wadau uliofanyika Nairobi Februari 26, Mkurugenzi Mtendaji wa Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Mohamud Gedi alisema, “Mpango huu uliobuniwa na utaalamu wa kimataifa wa Dar Al-Handasah, pamoja na Mradi wa Kuboresha JKIA, hutoa ramani wazi, thabiti na endelevu kwa ukuaji wa muda mrefu wa uwanja wa ndege, ikishikamana kikamilifu na Kenya Vision 2030.”

Mwezi huu mapema, Katibu Mkuu wa Idara ya Nchi ya Usafiri wa Anga na Maendeleo ya Anga, Teresia Mbaika, alisema serikali itatumia talanta ya uhandisi wa ndani katika miradi hii ya mabilioni ya shilingi.
