Mashambulizi ya maandamano yalianza karibu saa nane jioni na kuendelea hadi karibu usiku wa manane. Vijana walidai walipokea Ksh300 tu badala ya Ksh1,000 kwa siku moja kama ilivyoahidiwa na waandishi wa mafunzo. Mmoja wao alisema, "Kulikuwa na tatizo la mawasiliano tangu programu hii ianze. Hawakuwahi kutuambia tutapokea pesa lini. Tulipouliza, walisema mfumo wa malipo ulikuwa na matatizo." Aliongeza, "Leo wamekuja kutupa Ksh300 badala ya Ksh1,000 kwa siku. Ksh300 ni nini iliyolipwa baada ya siku tatu za mafunzo?"

NYOTA ni mpango wa miaka mitano unaofadhiliwa na Benki ya Dunia una target zaidi ya vijana 101,000 wasio na kazi wenye umri wa miaka 18 hadi 29 katika kaunti zote 47. Washiriki wanaamini watapokea hadi Ksh50,000 baada ya kukamilisha mafunzo. Tukio hili linatokea siku moja baada ya serikali kutangaza kuanza kwa awamu ya pili baada ya awamu ya kwanza kumalizika Februari mwaka huu, licha ya malalamiko ya ucheleweshaji wa fedha za awamu ya kwanza ya mpango wa Ksh28 bilioni.
