McLaren delays McMacarena wing test after Austria

McLaren has postponed plans to test its new rotating rear wing at the Austrian Grand Prix. The team brought the component to the Red Bull Ring but decided more development was needed before running it on track.

McLaren planned to evaluate the low-drag rear wing on Lando Norris's car during practice in Austria. The design, inspired by Ferrari's Macarena wing, uses a rotating flap mechanism rather than conventional DRS actuation.

Technical director Neil Houldey said the team completed significant factory work to prepare the wing for the event. Final checks showed it was not performing as required, leading to the decision to send it back for further work.

Norris noted the project requires time to perfect. He said the team aims to introduce the wing properly in a couple of races.

McLaren ran its standard rear wing throughout the Austrian weekend. The component is now expected after the British Grand Prix, most likely debuting in Belgium.
