Serikali ya Tanzania imekataa madai ya Rais William Ruto kwamba Kenya ina barabara tarmaki zaidi kuliko majirani wake katika Afrika Mashariki. Ruto alisema hii inaeleza bei za juu za mafuta nchini Kenya. Waziri wa Tanzania amesema nchi yao pekee ina kilomita 16,000 za barabara tarmaki.

Rais William Ruto, wakati wa ibada ya kanisani tarehe 19 Aprili, alitetea bei za juu za mafuta nchini Kenya. Alisema Kenya, kama nchi ya mapato ya kati, ina kilomita 20,000 za barabara tarmaki, ambazo zinazidi jumla ya Uganda, Tanzania, DRC, Rwanda, Burundi na South Sudan.

"Kenya ni nchi ya mapato ya kati. Majirani wetu ni nchi zenye maendeleo mdogo zaidi. Kama unataka kulinganisha Kenya na nyingine, linganisha na nchi zingine za mapato ya kati," alisema Ruto.

Aliongeza: "Kama utaongeza kilomita za Uganda, Tanzania, DRC, Rwanda, Burundi na South Sudan, sio 20,000 km, kwa hivyo kilomita 20,000 tulizo Kenya ni zaidi kuliko tarmac yote katika nchi 7 zingine za Afrika Mashariki."

Siku moja baadaye, tarehe 21 Aprili, waziri wa Tanzania alikataa madai hayo. Alisema Tanzania ina kilomita 16,000 za barabara tarmaki, na jumla ya nchi za Afrika Mashariki inazidi 22,000 km.

"Lazima ijulikane kuwa Tanzania ni nchi ya mapato ya kati-chini, na katika Afrika Mashariki, ni nchi mbili tu, Tanzania na Kenya," alisema waziri. "Hivyo takwimu hizo zinazotudhalilisha kama nchi zingine za Afrika Mashariki, ni za uongo."
