Amazon has updated its mobile app's 'Hear the Highlights' feature, allowing users to ask questions to AI-generated shopping experts. The enhancement builds on audio summaries introduced last year for millions of products. It is now available to US customers on iOS and Android.
Amazon announced an expansion to its 'Hear the Highlights' AI feature in the Shopping app. Previously, the tool provided short, unalterable audio scripts featuring a host and an expert discussing product aspects. Now, users can interrupt these one- to two-minute snippets with spoken or typed questions via a raised hand icon, prompting the AI to adapt the dialogue while returning to the original script afterward. Amazon states the feature covers millions of products, accessible by tapping a button under supported listings' images. The company introduced the base feature last year, with this Q&A addition rolling out for US customers on iOS and Android devices. In a test on an entry-level turntable listing, the AI expert responded to queries about 78 RPM record support and vinyl's role in a streaming era. 'Good questions,' the AI replied. 'On the first one, no. This turntable only plays 33 and 45 revolutions per minute records, so 78s won't work here. As for why vinyl in a streaming world, customers actually talk about this a lot. It's not about convenience, it's about the experience.'
