EACC nimmt 11 Beamte wegen eines mutmaßlichen NG-CDF-Skandals in Eldama Ravine in Höhe von 85 Millionen KES fest

Die kenianische Ethik- und Antikorruptionskommission (EACC) nahm am 7. Mai 11 Beamte fest, da 85 Millionen KES aus dem NG-CDF-Fonds von Eldama Ravine veruntreut worden sein sollen. Die Gelder stammten aus einer größeren Zuweisung von 369 Millionen KES, die zwischen 2018 und 2021 für lokale Projekte vorgesehen war.

Die Festnahmen richteten sich gegen Mitglieder des NG-CDF-Ausschusses, Buchhalter, Sachbearbeiter, einen IKT-Beauftragten sowie Mitarbeiter der Finanzabteilung. Ermittler fanden heraus, dass lediglich 11,5 Millionen KES für Überwachung und Evaluierung vorgesehen waren, jedoch 85 Millionen KES unter diesem Vorwand in bar abgehoben wurden.

Die Kommission erklärte, dass das fehlende Geld die Umsetzung mehrerer geplanter Entwicklungsprojekte verhindert habe. Zwei weitere Verdächtige sind weiterhin auf freiem Fuß; die EACC hat sie aufgefordert, sich bei einer ihrer Dienststellen zu melden.

Die Inhaftierten wurden in das Büro der Behörde für die Region South Rift in Nakuru gebracht. Ihnen werden unter anderem Amtsmissbrauch, Verschwörung zur Begehung eines Wirtschaftsverbrechens sowie falsche Buchführung vorgeworfen.
