CCP Games hat sich von Pearl Abyss getrennt und agiert nun als unabhängiges Studio unter dem Namen Fenris Creations. Das Rebranding geht mit einer Forschungspartnerschaft in Höhe von 120 Millionen US-Dollar mit Google DeepMind einher, um die KI-Entwicklung unter Nutzung des Eve Online-Universums voranzutreiben.

Der Entwickler des langjährigen Weltraum-MMOs kündigte den Übergang am Freitag an, wenige Tage nach der ersten Bekanntgabe der Partnerschaft mit DeepMind. Das Senior Management und Investoren, darunter Google, kontrollieren nun das Studio. Diese Struktur soll laut dem Unternehmen die Entscheidungsfindung für persistente Online-Welten und den langfristigen Spielbetrieb unterstützen. Die Partnerschaft ermöglicht es DeepMind, das Spielerverhalten auf isolierten Offline-Servern zu untersuchen, ohne das Live-Spiel zu beeinflussen.
