Foreign ministers from South Korea and 50 African countries gathered in Seoul on Monday for the Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers' Meeting to strengthen ties and address global challenges.
The meeting opened under the theme of Partnership for Joint Responses to Global Challenges. It is the first such gathering independently hosted by the South Korean government.
The plenary session is co-chaired by Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and Ghanaian Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Participants from 50 African countries along with the African Union, African Development Bank, AfCFTA and Africa CDC are reviewing cooperation in trade, investment, science and technology, and supply chains.
A joint statement is expected at the conclusion. Bilateral talks between Cho and the African ministers are also scheduled on the sidelines.
A Korea-Africa Business Forum follows on Tuesday with about 300 business leaders. Keynote speeches will be delivered by Hyundai Motor Company President Sung Kim and AfCFTA Secretary-General Wamkele Keabetswe Mene.
