Oberster Gerichtshof von Pretoria erlässt Haftbefehl gegen Ngizwe Mchunu

Der Oberste Gerichtshof von Pretoria hat einen Haftbefehl gegen den Kulturaktivisten Ngizwe Mchunu erlassen, nachdem er ihn wegen Missachtung des Gerichts für schuldig befunden hat. Er muss eine zehntägige Haftstrafe verbüßen.

Der Oberste Gerichtshof von Pretoria ordnete die Festnahme und Inhaftierung von Mchunu infolge einer zivilrechtlichen Verleumdungsklage des Anführers der Economic Freedom Fighters, Julius Malema, an. Der Fall geht auf Äußerungen zurück, die Mchunu im April vor den Union Buildings gemacht hatte, in denen er Malema beschuldigte, undokumentierte Ausländer zu schützen und 60 Millionen Rand von nigerianischen Drogenkartellen erhalten zu haben. Das Gericht entschied zugunsten von Malema und wies Mchunu an, eine öffentliche Entschuldigung abzugeben. Zudem stellte das Gericht fest, dass Mchunu gegen frühere gerichtliche Anordnungen im Zusammenhang mit den verleumderischen Aussagen verstoßen habe. Die Economic Freedom Fighters bestätigten das Urteil in den sozialen Medien und erklärten, dass der High Court von Gauteng den Haftbefehl erlassen habe.

EFF leader Julius Malema was sentenced to five years' direct imprisonment in the KuGompo Magistrates’ Court for unlawfully possessing a firearm during the EFF’s 2018 birthday celebrations in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape. Additional sentences on related charges will run concurrently. The court granted leave to appeal the sentence but denied it for the conviction, allowing Malema to remain free pending the appeal.
