USA verhängen Einreiseverbot gegen tansanischen Polizeibeamten

Die US-Regierung hat gegen den tansanischen Polizeibeamten Faustine Jackson Mafwele wegen Vorwürfen der Beteiligung an der Misshandlung von Aktivisten ein Einreiseverbot verhängt.

US-Außenminister Marco Rubio kündigte das Verbot am 21. Mai 2026 gemäß Abschnitt 7031(c) an. Berichten zufolge wird der Beamte mit der rechtswidrigen Inhaftierung, Folter und sexuellem Missbrauch der Aktivisten Boniface Mwangi und Agather Atuhaire während ihres Aufenthalts in Tansania im Mai 2025 in Verbindung gebracht. Die Aktivisten waren nach Daressalam gereist, um am Prozess gegen den Oppositionsführer Tundu Lissu teilzunehmen. Sie wurden aus ihrem Hotel verschleppt, festgehalten und angegriffen, bevor sie nahe der Grenzen ihrer jeweiligen Heimatländer ausgesetzt wurden. Mwangi wurde am 22. Mai 2025 nach mehr als dreitägiger Gefangenschaft lebend in Ukunda aufgefunden.
