Komisyoner ng BI dumalo sa summit laban sa human trafficking sa Tokyo

Dumalo ang Bureau of Immigration (BI) sa ika-5 na Tokyo Immigration Service sa Japan kasama ang mahigit 20 bansa upang talakayin ang mga hamon tulad ng human trafficking at transnational crime.

Noong Disyembre 10 hanggang 12, dumalo si BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado sa summit na inorganisa ng Immigration Services Agency of Japan sa Tokyo. Kasama sa mga dumalo ang mga kinatawan mula sa Australia, Canada, China, Germany, India, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Estados Unidos, at Turkey.

Sa plenary session, ipinamalas ni Viado ang pahayag ng Pilipinas tungkol sa mga bagong hakbang sa imigrasyon, na nakatuon sa digital transformation. Talakayin niya ang mga karaniwang hamon ng mga awtoridad sa imigrasyon sa buong mundo, kabilang ang irregular migration, human trafficking, transnational crime, at umuusbong na mga banta sa border security.

"These are challenges no country can address alone. Forums like this allow us to cooperate, learn from one another and build border systems that are secure, efficient, humane and responsive to the demands of lawful travel and economic growth," sabi ni Viado.

Binahagi rin niya ang mga reporma sa imigrasyon ng Pilipinas sa ilalim ng Bagong Immigration agenda, na nagbibigay prayoridad sa public service excellence, empowered personnel, robust law enforcement, operational efficiency, responsive infrastructure, at modernization through technology. Kabilang sa mga inisyatiba ang Advance Passenger Information System, pagpapalawak ng electronic gates at biometric systems sa major ports, dedicated OFW Wing sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, Cruise Visa Waiver Program, at online services sa BI eServices at eTravel platform.

Tinalakay din ng summit ang best practices sa recruitment at human resource development para sa immigration officers, health at hygiene management para sa detainees, at hinaharap ng border control sa pamamagitan ng bagong teknolohiya at digitalization.
