Pamahalaan naghahanda ng P3.5 bilyong subsido sa transportasyon

Naghahanda ang Department of Transportation ng P3.5 bilyong pondo para sa libreng sakay at subsido sa gasolina ng mga public utility vehicles upang labanan ang pagtaas ng presyo ng langis dahil sa tensyon sa Middle East. Ang Department of Transportation (DOTr) ay naghahanda ng P3.5 bilyong subsido para sa libreng sakay sa milyun-milyong commuter at para sa bahagi ng gastos sa gasolina ng mga public utility vehicles (PUVs). Ayon kay Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, gagamitin ang P1 bilyong pondo mula sa 2026 General Appropriations Act para sa Service Contracting Program (SCP), na magreresulta sa bagong round ng libreng sakay sa ilang bus routes, kabilang ang EDSA busway.

"We have a service contracting program under the 2026 GAA and I have already instructed the road sector to initiate the release of funds," sabi ni Lopez sa The STAR. Batay sa ridership noong 2025, maaaring magsilbi ito ng hanggang 183,000 Pilipino araw-araw.

Samantala, naghahanda rin ang Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) na maglabas ng P2.5 bilyong subsido sa gasolina ngayong linggo, kasama ang mga tricycle driver. Noong 2023, nakatanggap ng hanggang P10,000 ang 1.36 milyong beneficiaries. Ang mga subsidy na ito mula sa 2025 GAA ay maaari lamang ilabas pagkatapos ng sertipikasyon ng Department of Energy na ang presyo ng Dubai crude oil ay umabot sa $80 bawat bariles sa loob ng isang buwan. Noong March 6, umabot ito sa $99.14 bawat bariles, na tumaas ng 45 porsyento mula sa nakaraang linggo bago ang salungatan sa Iran dahil sa atake ng US-Israel.

Hiniling ni Bicol Saro Rep. Terry Ridon na agad magbigay ng sertipikasyon ang DOE upang maiwasan ang pagtaas ng presyo sa transportasyon. "Given current market indicators, the (DOE) should not wait for a full month of price monitoring before acting," sabi niya. Binigyang-diin din niya ang pagkakasama ng agri-fisheries transport sa subsido upang hindi tumaas ang presyo ng mga produkto sa bukid.

Dagdag pa, inaasahan na tumaas ng higit P20 bawat litro ang diesel ngayong linggo, habang P10 para sa gasoline. Ayon naman kay Bureau of Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno, ang pag-alis ng excise tax sa langis ay maaaring magresulta sa pagkawala ng P200 hanggang P230 bilyon sa kita ng gobyerno. Si President Marcos ay nagplano nang kausapin ang mga mambabatas para sa awtoridad na babaan ang buwis kung lalampas sa $80 ang presyo ng Dubai crude. Sapat ang suplay ng petrolyo para sa dalawang buwan, ayon sa BOC.
