La Haute Cour de Bombay a rejeté, le jeudi 30 avril 2026, une action en justice d'intérêt public déposée contre le prochain film de Ritesh Deshmukh, Raja Shivaji. Un collège de juges composé du président de la Cour, Shri Chandrashkhar, et du juge Gautam Ankhad, a rejeté les arguments de l'ONG plaignante, la Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Foundation.

L'ONG affirmait que le titre Raja Shivaji était irrespectueux envers l'empereur marathe du XVIIe siècle, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, en omettant le terme Chhatrapati. La cour a déclaré que cette requête ne servait pas l'intérêt public et qu'elle avait été déposée seulement deux jours avant la sortie du film, ce qui témoigne d'une intention particulière.

Cette décision autorise la sortie du film le 1er mai 2026 en hindi et en marathi. Ritesh Deshmukh a réalisé et produit le film, dans lequel il incarne Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Genelia D'Souza, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan et Sanjay Dutt y jouent des rôles clés, avec une apparition de Salman Khan.

Ce projet est un rêve de longue date pour Ritesh, et la bande-annonce a reçu un accueil enthousiaste du public.
