Otmar Szafnauer conteste la décision de la FIA au Grand Prix de Grande-Bretagne

L'ancien directeur d'écurie d'Alpine, Otmar Szafnauer, a critiqué la FIA pour ne pas avoir brandi le drapeau rouge lors du Grand Prix de Grande-Bretagne après l'abandon de Max Verstappen en fin de course. Il estime que les officiels ont manqué une occasion d'offrir une fin de course passionnante aux spectateurs de Silverstone.

Szafnauer a fait valoir que la direction de course aurait dû interrompre l'épreuve suite à l'abandon de Verstappen au 48e tour. La voiture de sécurité a été déployée et la course s'est terminée sous ce régime, faute de temps suffisant pour reprendre la compétition sous drapeau vert.

Charles Leclerc a remporté la victoire pour Ferrari devant le pilote Mercedes George Russell et Lewis Hamilton de chez Ferrari. Szafnauer a indiqué avoir contacté l'officiel de la FIA, Nikolas Tombazis, pour suggérer un drapeau rouge, affirmant que cela aurait été autorisé par le règlement.

« Ils auraient facilement pu brandir le drapeau rouge pour cette course », a déclaré Szafnauer dans le podcast High Performance Racing. Il a ajouté que cette décision aurait pu être prise pour les fans sans enfreindre la réglementation.

La dixième manche de la saison 2026 est prévue à Spa-Francorchamps pour le Grand Prix de Belgique, du 17 au 19 juillet.
