La police de l'Uttarakhand a enregistré la première plainte invoquant le Code civil uniforme dans une affaire alléguant la pratique du nikah halala, ainsi que des faits de harcèlement lié à la dot et d'autres infractions.

La plainte a été enregistrée le 4 avril au commissariat de Bhagwanpur à la suite d'une dénonciation déposée par une femme nommée Shabana contre son mari et sa belle-famille. Elle couvrait initialement des articles de la loi sur l'interdiction de la dot et de la loi sur les femmes musulmanes, avant que les enquêteurs n'ajoutent les dispositions du Code civil uniforme (UCC) après une enquête d'un mois.

Le rapport final déposé le 14 mai a mis en cause neuf personnes et a inclus les articles 32(1)(ii) et 32(1)(iii) du Code civil de l'Uttarakhand. La police a déclaré que les preuves étayaient l'ajout de ces clauses liées à la pratique présumée.

Un haut responsable a souligné que ces procédures pourraient indiquer la manière dont les tribunaux interpréteront le nouveau cadre juridique dans les affaires impliquant le droit personnel. Des avis ont été notifiés aux accusés en vertu des articles pertinents de la procédure pénale.
