한국은행은 8일 올해 1∼6월 위조지폐 적발 건수가 41장으로 지난해 같은 기간 62장보다 33.9% 줄었다고 발표했다. 이는 현금 외 결제 수단 이용이 늘면서 나타난 현상으로 풀이된다.
연간 기준으로도 2025년에 처음으로 100장 아래로 떨어진 이후 감소세가 이어지고 있다. 한국은행은 유통 지폐 1억장당 위조지폐 비율이 0.6장이라고 밝혔다.
비교 대상 국가들과의 격차도 컸다. 영국은 4,229장, 유로존은 1,461장, 캐나다는 1,411장, 일본은 8.6장으로 집계됐다.
