태국 대사 타니 상랏은 5월 19일 서울 주한 태국 대사관에서 진행된 인터뷰에서 양국 관계를 관광과 문화 중심에서 투자, 산업 협력, 혁신으로 확대하려는 계획을 밝혔다.
상랏 대사는 한국과 태국이 CEPA 협상을 2년간 진행 중이며 올해 내 서명을 목표로 하고 있다고 말했다. 그는 양국 교역 규모를 150억 달러에서 300억 달러로 두 배 늘리려는 태국 총리의 목표를 언급했다.
또한 한국 기업을 위한 태국 동부 해안 지역 첫 산업단지 조성을 위한 양해각서 준비가 진행 중이라고 밝혔다. 주한 태국 대사관은 양국 스타트업 협력을 지원하기 위해 서울 태국 스타트업 및 혁신 공간을 출범할 계획이다.
6월 20일과 21일 청계광장에서 열리는 사와디 서울 태국 축제는 올해 혁신과 기업가 정신을 강조할 예정이다. 상랏 대사는 ASEAN 위원회 서울 의장으로서도 한국 기업 방문 등 협력 활동을 이어가고 있다고 덧붙였다.
