이 대통령은 실리콘밸리에 투자하는 여섯 개 벤처캐피털사 임원들과 만났다. 여기에는 안드레센 호로위츠의 마틴 카사도, 세쿼이아 캐피털의 알프레드 린, 제너럴 캐털리스트의 헤만트 타네자가 포함됐다.
그는 미국의 세계적 벤처 자본과 네트워크를 한국의 첨단 기술·제조 경쟁력과 결합하면 삼성전자, SK하이닉스 같은 글로벌 혁신 기업이 탄생할 것이라고 말했다. 이 대통령은 또한 외국 스타트업 인재 유치를 위한 비자 제도 개혁을 약속했다.
이 대통령은 브라질을 첫 방문지로 하는 남미 순방 도중 금요일 샌프란시스코에 도착했다.
