Rais William Ruto amewahakikishia wakazi wa Nyamira kuwa kituo cha SGR chenye gharama ya Ksh 300 milioni kitajengwa Ikonge. Matamshi haya yametoka baada ya malalamiko ya wakazi kuhusu kutoweka kwa kituo katika mipango ya awali ingawa reli inapitia eneo hilo. Rais aliongea Ikonge, Kaunti ya Nyamira, tarehe 13 Aprili wakati wa ziara ya maendeleo.

"Mimi ndiye niliyeishinikiza reli kutoka Naivasha ipitie Ikonge, na hapa Ikonge ninaunda kituo cha reli chenye Ksh 300 milioni," Rais Ruto alisema. "Kituo hiki kitawasaidia kusafirisha watu na bidhaa. Nataka mjiandikishe kwa sababu mazao yenu yote ya kusafirisha Nairobi yatapitia SGR, kwa hivyo mwaambie wapinga wape radhi."

Matamshi haya yamefuata malalamiko ya wakazi wa Nyamira baada ya ripoti za awali kuonyesha kuwa ingawa reli ya SGR ya Awamu ya 2B kutoka Naivasha hadi Kisumu inapitia Ikonge, hakukuwa na kituo kilichopangwa. Mipango ya awali ilikuwa na vituo sita vya kati: Narok, Mulot, Bomet, Sotik, Sondu na Ahero, pamoja na vituo 17 vya kuvuka reli katika kaunti kadhaa.

Wakazi walikuwa na hofu kuwa ukosefu wa kituo ungezuia biashara, hasa usafirishaji wa mazao kutoka Nyamira kwenda maeneo kama Nakuru, Narok, Nairobi, Mombasa na Kisumu. Viongozi wa Nyamira waliomsindikiza Ruto walishukuru kwa kutoa kituo hicho, wakisema kitaboosta uchumi wa kaunti inayojulikana kwa mazao ya kilimo.

Aidha, Rais aliahidi miradi mingine ikiwemo kutenga hekta 100 za barabara zitakazofungwa, kuinua viwango vya Hospitali Kuu ya Nyamira, kujenga masoko, hosteli na nyumba za gharama nafuu, Ksh 900 milioni kwa uwanja wa michezo na zaidi ya Ksh 700 milioni kwa Chuo Kikuu cha Nyamira.
