Red Bull has introduced several technical changes to its RB22 car ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix. The updates target the floor, bodywork and rear sections in an effort to close the gap to leading teams.
Red Bull, currently fourth in the constructors' championship and 52 points behind McLaren, made revisions including a reprofiled sidepod inlet, new engine cover bodywork and adjustments to the forward floor area. The team also added new rear wing pylons and reworked the exhaust outlet.
Max Verstappen said on Thursday that the changes are crucial for the team to improve performance throughout the season. Other squads including Audi and Cadillac introduced their own modifications, with Cadillac expecting gains of a few tenths of a second from new sidepods and diffuser surfaces.
McLaren is testing a straight-mode wing but does not plan to race it this weekend. Mercedes, Ferrari, Racing Bulls and Alpine made smaller adjustments, some prompted by an FIA technical directive on diffuser extensions.
