A kilometer-long track replacement train is currently upgrading the railway between Ludvika and Ulvshyttan. The work will last five weeks and costs around 400 million kronor.
Around 200 people are involved in the effort where ballast, sleepers and rails are replaced at the same time. The Swedish Transport Administration is using the world-unique train that can replace track at a rate of 200 meters per hour.
Train passengers are directed to replacement services during the period. The section will reopen partially from 1 June and is expected to be fully operational by mid-June.
The project is part of several major railway investments in Dalarna. Other works are ongoing between Grängesberg and Ställdalen as well as between Avesta-Krylbo and Uppsala.
