Der Hafen von Damietta hat den Massengutfrachter Yang Fan mit einer Ladung von 144.780 Tonnen Schlacke aus China empfangen, was die größte Ladung dieser Art in der Geschichte des Hafens darstellt.

Das unter der Flagge Panamas fahrende Schiff kam aus Singapur an und hat eine Länge von 289 Metern, eine Breite von 45 Metern sowie einen Tiefgang von 16 Metern.

Der Vorsitzende der Hafenbehörde, Tarek Adly Abdallah, erklärte, der Empfang zeige die Leistungsfähigkeit des Schifffahrtskanals und der Liegeplätze nach den kürzlich erfolgten Modernisierungen.

Das Entladen wird von Geräten der Firma Sisco Trans for Advanced Logistics durchgeführt. Dies ist Teil eines Plans des Verkehrsministeriums unter der Leitung von Minister Kamel El-Wazir, um die Kapazitäten der ägyptischen Häfen zu erhöhen.
