Pick n Pay prévoit des changements sociaux tandis que Boxer affiche de solides résultats

Pick n Pay a annoncé des changements majeurs concernant les conditions de travail et la rémunération du personnel en magasin par le biais d'un processus de l'article 189A. Parallèlement, sa chaîne de discount Boxer, devenue indépendante, a publié d'excellents résultats pour sa première année après son introduction à la Bourse de Johannesburg (JSE).

Le PDG de Pick n Pay, Sean Summers, a décrit ces ajustements sociaux comme une partie importante du redressement de l'entreprise. Le détaillant vise à réduire la prime du dimanche, à rendre les quarts de travail du week-end obligatoires et à réduire le nombre d'heures mensuelles garanties pour le personnel à temps plein de 196 à 130 heures.

Le syndicat sud-africain Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union, qui représente environ 60 pour cent des 22 000 travailleurs concernés, a qualifié cette décision de coup de tonnerre et a accusé l'entreprise d'agir de mauvaise foi sans consultation préalable.

En revanche, le PDG de Boxer, Marek Masojada, a indiqué que la chaîne de discount a ouvert 51 nouveaux magasins nets au cours de l'année écoulée, portant son total à 576 points de vente. Boxer a créé 3 400 emplois, a augmenté ses ventes de 12,3 pour cent et a réduit ses prix en rayon de 1,2 pour cent, alors que le marché global a progressé de 4,4 pour cent.
