SpaceX termine le 13e vol d'essai du Starship avec des satellites Starlink à son bord

SpaceX a lancé son 13e vol d'essai du Starship depuis le sud du Texas le 24 juillet après des retards dus à la météo et aux moteurs. Le véhicule transportait 20 satellites Starlink V3 de nouvelle génération pour sa première mission de charge utile.

Le vol a marqué la deuxième utilisation de la configuration améliorée du Starship V3, qui a volé pour la première fois en mai. SpaceX a déclaré que l'essai visait à recueillir des données en vue d'une conception entièrement réutilisable tout en vérifiant les nouveaux satellites. Les 20 satellites ont été déployés sur une trajectoire suborbitale et devaient se désintégrer dans l'atmosphère environ 20 minutes après leur déploiement. Deux d'entre eux étaient équipés de caméras pour photographier le bouclier thermique du Starship pendant la rentrée atmosphérique. Deux tentatives précédentes avaient été annulées, l'une le 16 juillet en raison de problèmes de moteur et l'autre le 23 juillet à cause des conditions météorologiques. Les satellites offrent une capacité supérieure aux modèles précédents, avec jusqu'à 1 Tbps en liaison descendante et 160 Gbps en liaison montante.

South Korea's Compact Advanced Satellite (CAS) 500-2 successfully launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The satellite entered low-Earth orbit and made first contact with a ground station in Norway. The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) confirmed it is operating normally.

SpaceX launched its upgraded Starship rocket on its first test flight Friday from South Texas, achieving a successful splashdown in the Indian Ocean after more than an hour in flight.

SpaceX plans to conduct the 13th integrated flight test of its Starship system as early as Thursday, July 16. The 90-minute launch window opens at 5:45 p.m. CT from Starbase in South Texas. The mission will use the latest V3 vehicles equipped with Raptor 3 engines.

The US Federal Communications Commission has ruled in favor of SpaceX, promising faster speeds, lower costs, and greater reliability for Starlink and other satellite services. The decision provides a sevenfold capacity boost for satellite internet providers.
