7月28日、中国南部初となる本格的な自然史博物館である深圳自然博物館が一般公開された。
同博物館は深圳市政府が主導し、展示品収集費用を除いて総額35億元（約5億1700万米ドル）を投じて建設された。深圳市の坪山区に位置し、敷地面積は4万2000平方メートル、延床面積は10万5300平方メートルとなっている。
建物は、世界中から70以上の提案が集まったコンペを経て、デンマークの3XN、カナダのB+H Architects、および中国の筑博設計（Zhubo Design）が共同で設計した。その形状は川のデルタ地帯から着想を得ており、歩行可能な緑豊かな屋上公園が備わっている。
施設内には常設展示室および企画展示室、研究ラボ、1100席のネイチャーシアター、3つの映画館が設置されている。同施設は、深圳市の「新時代の十大文化施設」の一つとして位置づけられている。
