Dune: Awakening drops mandatory PvP from endgame

Developers at Funcom have announced major changes to Dune: Awakening, removing PvP zones from key endgame areas after 80% of players avoided them. An exploration-focused endgame instance and private server support are coming in an upcoming patch. PvP enthusiasts will still have access to a high-risk version with boosted rewards.

Funcom revealed in a blog post that all PvP zones will be removed from the Hagga Basin map in Dune: Awakening. The endgame Deep Desert map will also gain an alternative instance with PvP disabled, allowing players to focus on exploration and resource gathering without combat threats. This follows significant updates in the game's recent chapter three patch, addressing player feedback on the initial PvP-heavy endgame design. The developers noted that 80% of lifetime players never engaged with PvP, despite its role in creating tense, group-based loot hunts in the Dune universe-inspired world. A PvP-enabled Deep Desert will remain for those seeking danger, offering a 2.5x multiplier on resources as incentive. Funcom explained the shift: > By separating these experiences, we allow players to hunt for spice or explore Imperial Testing Stations without the constant threat of a blade in the dark, while ensuring those who live for the thrill of the hunt have a dedicated arena to prove their mettle and the rewards to make it worthwhile. Private server hosting enters testing soon, featuring customizable PvP rules, resource rates, and possible character transfers from public servers. These options aim to extend the game's longevity through community-driven play.
