Minister berichtet von Fortschritten beim gleichberechtigten Zugang zu Infrastruktur

Der äthiopische Minister für Wasser und Energie, Habtamu Itefa, erklärte, dass in den vergangenen vier Jahren ermutigende Ergebnisse bei der gerechteren Verteilung des Zugangs zu Infrastruktur im ganzen Land erzielt wurden.

In der Vergangenheit lag die Wasserversorgung in einigen Regionen bei nur 38 Prozent, während sie in anderen bis zu 70 Prozent erreichte, erinnerte der Minister. Seit dem Regierungswechsel wurden Entwicklungsprojekte gleichmäßiger verteilt.

Konkrete Verbesserungen konnten in dürreanfälligen Gebieten wie Afar, der Somali-Region und der Borena-Zone verzeichnet werden. Viehzüchter in Borena stellen auf Ackerbau um, der Tendaho-Damm in Afar unterstützt die Futterproduktion und die Weizenproduktion in der Somali-Region nimmt zu.

Die Stromerzeugungskapazität des Landes ist von unter 4.000 Megawatt auf fast 10.000 Megawatt gestiegen. Dieser Ausbau unterstütze die städtische Entwicklung und habe es Äthiopien ermöglicht, internationale Konferenzen auszurichten, so der Minister.

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has inaugurated the rehabilitated and expanded Tendaho irrigation development project in Dubti woreda, Afar Region. Afar Region President Awel Arba and Water and Environment Minister Dr. Abraham Belay attended the event. The project has a capacity for 60,000 hectares, with 33,000 hectares now ready for irrigation.

Ethiopia's Electric Power utility is implementing a project costing over 2.4 billion birr to electrify 21 new towns in the Afar region, specifically in Afdera and Dalol areas. The initiative supports local cement and potash industries. Funding includes support from the African Development Bank.
