Developers at Ubisoft Barcelona have begun a strike in response to planned job cuts at the studio. The action, organized by a Spanish union, involves staff leaving work on specific afternoons through mid-July.
The strike targets proposed layoffs that would affect 51 employees. Workers demand the positions be retained along with a five-year job protection period.
Additional demands include a return to remote work for 60 percent of days, approval of stalled internal promotions, and a formal review of pay and benefits. The union La Confederación General del Trabajo is coordinating the effort.
These actions follow earlier layoffs and restructuring at Ubisoft. In June the company closed studios in Winnipeg and Belgrade while shifting Barcelona's focus to Rainbow Six: Siege.
