El Collegium de la Corte Suprema de India ha recomendado el nombramiento de cuatro presidentes de tribunales superiores y de la abogada senior V Mohana como jueces del máximo tribunal.

El Collegium, encabezado por el presidente de la Corte Suprema de India, Surya Kant, realizó las recomendaciones durante las reuniones celebradas el 22 y el 27 de mayo. Los nombres incluyen al presidente del Tribunal Superior de Punjab y Haryana, Sheel Nagu; al presidente del Tribunal Superior de Bombay, Shree Chandrashekhar; al presidente del Tribunal Superior de Madhya Pradesh, Sanjeev Sachdeva; y al presidente del Tribunal Superior de Jammu y Cachemira y Ladakh, Arun Palli.

También se recomienda a la abogada senior V Mohana, quien fue designada por la Corte Suprema en abril de 2015. Si el gobierno acepta la propuesta, su nombramiento elevaría a dos el número de mujeres jueces en el tribunal, sumándose a la jueza B V Nagarathna. Sería la segunda mujer proveniente de la abogacía en ser recomendada, después de la jueza Indu Malhotra.

La Corte Suprema cuenta actualmente con 32 jueces en funciones. En marzo, el presidente del tribunal, Kant, había recomendado aumentar el cupo autorizado de 34 a 38 jueces. El gobierno aprobó esta medida el 5 de mayo a través del proyecto de ley de enmienda de la Corte Suprema (Número de Jueces) de 2026.
