ピレネー山脈東部の標高の高い場所にある洞窟で、数千年にわたる先史時代の人々の繰り返しの居住を示す痕跡が見つかった。これには、初期の銅採掘の可能性や子どもの遺骨も含まれている。

考古学者らは、フレセール渓谷の標高約7,300フィート(約2,225メートル)以上に位置する338号洞窟を発掘した。調査の結果、4つの活動層が確認され、最も古い木炭は約6,000年前のものと年代測定された。第2層と第3層からは23基の炉が見つかり、その中にはマラカイト(孔雀石)の可能性がある緑色の鉱物を砕いて焼いた破片が含まれていた。放射性炭素年代測定により、一つの炉は約3,000年前、他の炉は5,500年から4,000年前のものと推定されている。研究チームは第3層から子どもの指の骨と乳歯を発掘したほか、紀元前2千年紀のものとされる貝殻のペンダントやヒグマの歯のペンダントも発見した。カタルーニャ人間古生態学・社会進化研究所のカルロス・トルネロ教授は「非常に充実した考古学的シーケンスが見つかった」と述べた。この夏には、鉱物の特定とさらなる埋葬遺構の調査を目的として発掘が再開される予定である。
