バーミンガム大学、低温での水素製造を可能にする触媒を開発

Yulong Ding教授率いるチームが開発したペロブスカイト素材「BNCF」は、摂氏150~500度で水を分解し水素を生成する。この触媒の再生は摂氏700~1000度で行われ、既存の熱化学システムよりも約500度低い。国際学術誌「International Journal of Hydrogen Energy」に掲載された研究結果によると、この素材は10回の製造サイクルを通じて安定性を維持した。予備的な経済分析によれば、このプロセスは電気分解によるグリーン水素や、炭素回収を伴うメタンからのブルー水素よりもコストを抑えられる可能性がある。本プロジェクトは、バーミンガム大学と北京科技大学の共同研究によるものだ。バーミンガム大学の営利部門であるUniversity of Birmingham Enterpriseは特許を出願しており、英国内外での商用化に向けたパートナーを募っている。Ding教授は、低温での反応により再生可能エネルギーの拠点や産業施設の近くで水素製造が可能となり、貯蔵および輸送インフラへの依存を低減できると指摘している。
