Brazil strengthens domestic coffee consumption amid export challenges

Brazil maintains its status as the world’s top coffee producer while building a robust domestic market that now includes rising specialty consumption. Recent data show steady growth in internal demand, offering resilience against trade disruptions. Industry experts highlight how production history and infrastructure investments have fostered this dual strength.

Domestic coffee consumption in Brazil rose 1.1 percent from November 2023 to October 2024, reaching nearly 22 million bags, according to the Brazilian Coffee Industry Association. Specialty coffee grew 15 percent in 2025 and now represents 5 to 10 percent of the total market by volume, with major cities such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Belo Horizonte leading the shift toward higher-quality options. StoneX projects a record harvest of 182.5 million bags for the 2026/27 season, underscoring continued expansion in output.
