Die Entwickler von Sandfall Interactive zeigten sich enttäuscht über PlayStations Plan, die Produktion physischer Discs einzustellen. Creative Director Guillaume Broche beschrieb den Schritt als einen herben Verlust für die künstlerische Seite von Videospielen.

Die Äußerungen fielen in einem Interview mit Automaton nach der Ankündigung von PlayStation Anfang des Monats, ab 2028 keine physischen Videospiel-Discs mehr herzustellen. Broche betonte seine persönliche Verbundenheit mit Spieleläden und physischen Exemplaren und fügte hinzu, dass die Entscheidung zwar wirtschaftlich sinnvoll sei, aber dem Geist des Besitzes physischer Medien schade.

Mitbegründer und CTO Tom Guillermin erklärte, dass das Team erwogen hatte, aus Kostengründen auf eine physische Ausgabe von Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 zu verzichten, sich dann aber doch für eine Veröffentlichung entschied. Er erläuterte, dass das Studio großen Wert darauf lege, den Spielern die Möglichkeit zu geben, das Spiel in den Händen zu halten, auch wenn dies einen geringeren Gewinn pro Einheit bedeute.

Der leitende Charakter- und Konzeptkünstler Alan Reynaud pflichtete ihm bei, verglich physische Spiele mit physischen Büchern und beschrieb das Erlebnis, ein Spiel in einem Geschäft zu kaufen, als ein schönes Gefühl, das in Zukunft möglicherweise nicht mehr möglich sein wird.
