Präsident Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva reist am Montag nach Rio de Janeiro, um den Beitritt des Bundesstaates zum Programm für die vollständige Tilgung von Staatsschulden (PROPAG) zu formalisieren.

Die Unterzeichnung findet im Palácio Guanabara mit dem amtierenden Gouverneur Ricardo Couto statt. Die Genehmigung wurde von Lula am 5. Mai erteilt, nachdem im Dezember 2025 ein entsprechender Antrag gestellt worden war. Mit dem Beitritt wird Rio das Regime zur fiskalischen Erholung verlassen. Die monatliche Schuldentilgung an die Union dürfte von etwa 490 Millionen R$ auf rund 113 Millionen R$ sinken. Die Gesamtverschuldung des Bundesstaates gegenüber der Union übersteigt nach Angaben des Nationalen Schatzamtes 237 Milliarden R$. PROPAG wurde vom ehemaligen Senatspräsidenten Rodrigo Pacheco initiiert.
