High Court des Northern Cape verlängert vorläufige Liquidation der Ekapa-Mine

Der High Court des Northern Cape hat die vorläufige Liquidation der Ekapa-Mine in Kimberley bis zum 30. Oktober verlängert, anstatt eine endgültige Anordnung zu erlassen. Die National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) hatte sich gegen den Antrag ausgesprochen und zeigte sich mit dem Ergebnis zufrieden. Die Entscheidung folgt auf einen tödlichen Schlammeinbruch in der Mine im Februar.

Der High Court des Northern Cape in Kimberley verlängerte am 17. April die vorläufige Liquidation der Ekapa-Mine und vertagte die Angelegenheit auf den 30. Oktober. Dies geschah, nachdem die Sanierungsexperten einen endgültigen Liquidationsbeschluss beantragt hatten, den Numsa aufgrund des möglichen Schadens für die Arbeiter anfocht. Der örtliche Numsa-Organisator Lerato Mohatlane begrüßte das Urteil. "Numsa war anwesend, um sich der Liquidation zu widersetzen und eine Verlängerung in dieser Angelegenheit zu beantragen, damit der Liquidationsprozess nicht genehmigt wird, was das Gericht auch getan hat", sagte Mohatlane. Sie fügte hinzu, dass die Verlängerung es der Gewerkschaft ermögliche, sich besser vorzubereiten, und den Arbeitern Zugang zu 50 % ihrer Pensionsfonds bei Momentum verschaffe. Der Fall geht auf einen Schlammeinbruch im Februar zurück, bei dem fünf Bergleute in der Ekapa-Mine ums Leben kamen. Alle Leichen wurden später geborgen, was über 1.200 Arbeiter in eine Notlage brachte.
