Des employés d'id Software contredisent les propos d'Hugo Martin sur les licenciements

Des employés actuels et anciens d'id Software ont réfuté la récente défense du studio par le directeur Hugo Martin suite aux licenciements chez Microsoft. Des sources anonymes ont déclaré à Game Developer qu'environ deux tiers de l'équipe de Doom (2016) avaient été licenciés au début du mois.

Microsoft a annoncé 3 200 licenciements au sein de sa division Xbox il y a deux semaines. Les coupes ont touché id Software, le studio à l'origine des séries Doom et Quake.

Martin, qui a dirigé les derniers jeux Doom, a déclaré lors d'un livestream que les rapports affirmant que le studio avait été réduit à un rôle de soutien étaient exagérés. Plusieurs employés ayant travaillé sur Doom (2016) ne sont pas d'accord avec cette évaluation.

Une source a déclaré que de nombreux membres du personnel licenciés ont eu le sentiment que leurs contributions étaient considérées comme insignifiantes. La même source a noté que la taille de l'équipe avait été effectivement réduite de moitié.

Les licenciements ont également touché des développeurs qui avaient effectué de longues heures de travail pour terminer Doom 2016 après l'annulation d'un projet précédent. L'avenir des projets d'id Software reste incertain, bien que la direction de Xbox ait exprimé son intérêt pour de futurs titres Doom et Quake.
