The Philippine weather bureau on Tuesday said it is tracking two low-pressure areas that are not expected to develop into tropical cyclones or bring direct effects to the country.

El Niño conditions are now present in the tropical Pacific, with an 80 percent probability of developing into a full-blown event persisting until early 2027, the state weather bureau said.

The United Nations World Meteorological Organization has warned of a possibly strong El Niño event that could intensify extreme weather globally.

Scientists predict the current El Niño, which formed in June, will surpass all prior events in strength. Improved models and data support high confidence in record forecasts. This raises concerns for drought in southern Africa and global weather patterns.

NASA and European partners have tracked a large pulse of warm water moving across the Pacific Ocean toward South America. The observation, captured by the Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich satellite, raises the possibility that El Niño conditions could develop later this year.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said generally fair weather with localized rain showers will prevail over much of the country through the weekend.
