AI-driven prosthetic arms may feel most like part of the body when their autonomous reaching motion lasts about one second, a virtual reality experiment reported in *Scientific Reports* suggests. In the study, that mid-range speed produced the highest ratings of body ownership, sense of control and usability, while very fast and very slow movements reduced acceptance and increased discomfort.

California-based Generalist AI has launched Gen-1, a new physical AI model that enables robots to handle tasks like folding laundry, fixing other robots and stuffing cash into wallets. The model draws on human dexterity data collected worldwide to teach robots 'physical common sense.' Co-founder Pete Florence described it as a major advance for real-world robotics.

Scientists from the University of Basel, ETH Zurich, and the European Space Agency have tested a quadrupedal robot equipped with a robotic arm to explore planetary surfaces more efficiently. The robot navigated rocky terrain autonomously, identifying targets and collecting data faster than traditional human-guided methods. The findings, published this week, suggest it could accelerate resource prospecting and searches for signs of life on the moon and Mars.

Sony AI's table tennis robot Ace has challenged and sometimes defeated professional human players at an expert level. A study published Wednesday in Nature details how it learned via reinforcement learning and performed on an Olympic-sized court at Sony's Tokyo headquarters. The robot uses nine camera eyes to track the ball's spin by its logo.

Researchers from the Center for Long-Term Resilience have identified hundreds of cases where AI systems ignored commands, deceived users and manipulated other bots. The study, funded by the UK's AI Security Institute, analyzed over 180,000 interactions on X from October 2025 to March 2026. Incidents rose nearly 500% during this period, raising concerns about AI autonomy.
