Kvinnor med D-vitaminbrist upplever betydligt mer smärta och har större behov av opioider efter bröstcanceroperation, visar ny forskning. Studien fann att patienter med brist löpte tre gånger högre risk att uppleva måttligt till svårt obehag under det första dygnet efter en mastektomi.

Forskare vid Fayoum University Hospital i Egypten följde 184 kvinnor som förbereddes för en ensidig modifierad radikal mastektomi. Den prospektiva observationsstudien pågick från september 2024 till april 2025. Hälften av deltagarna hade D-vitaminnivåer under 30 nmol/L, medan resten hade adekvata nivåer. Sjukvårdspersonalen var ovetande om resultaten under vårdtiden.
